Image Gallery (32 images)
Chevrolet has announced details of the 2009 Corvette ZR1 with the promise of an American supercar that will establish new benchmarks for production-based power and performance. Coming almost two decades after the official launch of the Corvette ZR1 at the Geneva Auto Show way back in 1989, the 2009 ZR1 features a long list of specialized components that include extensive use of carbon-fiber paneling and an all-new LS9 supercharged 6.2L V-8 that's expected to punch out 620 horsepower (462 kW) with around 595 lb.-ft. of torque (823 Nm). Though full performance specs will not be released until the summer 2008 launch draws closer, predictions are that the new ZR1 will be the first production Corvette to achieve a top speed of at least 200 mph, making it the the most powerful and fastest automobile ever produced by General Motors and giving it the muscle to claim dominance over international competition like the Porsche 911 GT2, the Ferrari 599 and the Lamborghini LP640.

Ferrari upgrades FXX prototype
Image Gallery (6 images)
November 14, 2007 After two years of ferocious testing, Ferrari have made large-scale improvements to one of the most extreme supercars they’ve ever built. Available only to a select handful of owners (including 7-times Formula One champ Michael Schumacher), the FXX prototype now makes a ridiculous 860 horsepower (641.3kW) at a screaming 9500RPM, and incorporates the absolute bleeding edge of barely-filtered F1 technology. Never intended for road use, the car can only be driven at trackdays approved by Ferrari, and all driving data is fed back into the Ferrari roadcar development program.

The other Ferrari Limousine
Image Gallery (5 images)
September 14, 2007 We wuz wrong! We wrote earlier this week about the world's first stretched Ferrari, and we've since had several readers (thanks to Bill Siegfried and Peter Yu) who wrote to inform us of another stretched Ferrari that resides in the USA. It turns out the original world's first stretched Ferrari can be hired for the princely sum of US$400 an hour from Ali Baba Limousines in Philadelphia PA. Ali Baba specializes in exotic limos - the stable includes stretched versions of some serious automotive unobtanium, including Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Mercedes Benz, Range Rover, Hummer, and getting into "oh, how could they" territory a stretched Porsche Cayenne, a stretched Excalibur, and, heaven forbid, a stretched 1952 MG (sob!).
Ferrari crams unprecedented F1 technology into new 430 Scuderia
Image Gallery (21 images)
When Ferrari pulls the covers off a new model, the world stops to look – especially when it’s an up-spec version of an already phenomenal car that’s been lightened, pumped up with a dose of steroids and packed to the gills with barely-filtered technology fresh from the garage of the oldest and most successful Formula One team in the paddock. Here it is: the brand new and much-anticipated Ferrari 430 Scuderia supercar.
World’s first Ferrari stretch limousine
Image Gallery (9 images)
September 12, 2007 Now here’s something very much out of the ordinary. This unique black Ferrari 360 Modena carbon fibre stretch limousine will undoubtedly spin heads when it’s unveiled at the European Limousine and Chauffeur Show in the UK this month. The fastest limo in the world according to owner Dan Cawley, the 23 feet long, 400bhp vehicle achieves 0-60mph in less than six seconds and has a top speed of 170mph.
Ferrari adds 430 Scuderia berlinetta to line-up
Image Gallery (8 images)
July 20, 2007 Ferrari will add a 2-seater Scuderia Berlinetta version of the 430 to its line-up at IAA (Frankfurt) Motor Show in September. The spartan new car has an extremely low weight-to-power ratio of just 2.45 kg per hp thanks to a low dry weight of just 1250 kg - 100 kg less than the F430 - and to the naturally-aspirated 4308cc V8's 510 hp at 8500 rpm. Accordingly, the car should be one of the fastest accelerating supercars available. Reflecting Ferrari’s F1 heritage, the car bristles with F1 technology such as “F1 Superfast” software which reduces gearchange times to just 60 milliseconds, and new traction control which, for the first time, combines the E-Diff electronic differential and the F1-Trac traction and stability control in a single integrated system.
Espionage and sabotage in the high-stakes world of Formula One
Image Gallery (8 images)
July 17, 2007 An intriguing tale of industrial espionage and general skulduggery at the highest level is breaking out in the world of Formula One. Amidst an investigation of one of Ferrari's chief mechanics, who is under suspicion of sabotaging the two Ferrari F1 cars before the Monaco race this year, it has emerged that the McLaren-Mercedes team's chief designer was in possession of a large amount of highly classified documents detailing the design of the 2007 Ferrari F1 cars. While it may be some time until the truth emerges, this scandal in the top ranks of racing's richest competition is threatening to overshadow the jaw-dropping debut season of McLaren's Lewis Hamilton as the defining moment of the 2007 Formula One GP season.
New contender for world’s fastest police car?
Image Gallery (2 images)
July 6, 2007 We’ve previously examined an array of high-powered police cars from all around the globe and now a new contender may have emerged - the 612 Scaglietti, Ferrari’s flagship Grand Tourer will appear in special Police livery at Salon Privé’s Private and Luxury Super Car Show which opens on Wednesday 11th July in London. Though not in actual use, the car was recently driven over 1,500 miles by Police forces across the UK to lead the UK Leg of Ferrari’s 60th Anniversary Tour and to promote road safety messages.
The first US$100 million a year athlete and the next one
Image Gallery (29 images)
June 30, 2007 Forbes magazine released its annual Celebrity 100 list recently, noting that golfer Tiger Woods banked US$100 million in the last year, becoming the first athlete in history to do so. Woods is the perfect corporate ambassador, being handsome, charming, beautifully spoken, dominant in a major TV sport and black, giving him a commercial edge in that his sponsors are perceived to be inclusive of minorities. SportBusiness International Magazine once forecast that Woods could be the first athlete to earn a billion dollars in a year given he had all the boxes ticked and global TV sport was emerging as a gargantuan money spinner given that it’s the only time-critical news you can pre-sell. Remarkably, a new sports star has rocketed from obscurity who will almost certainly push his way onto next year’s Celebrity 100 and might well elbow his way past Woods as sport’s highest money earner in the next round of sponsorship negotiations. Unknown three months ago, Lewis Hamilton’s sporting career has begun more spectacularly than any other in history … in any sport.
Ferrari Visio sports-binoculars
Image Gallery (6 images)
June 29, 2007 They may have been around for almost 400 years, but rarely have binoculars looked quite this slick. Developed via a recently announced licensing agreement between Ferrari and William Optics, the Ferrari Visio 8x25 binoculars borrow more from the F1 racing team than the famous Prancing Horse logo - they include a real carbon fiber plate which, as well as looking the part, adds to their lightweight construction.
Used Convertible Values: Volkswagen Chases Ferrari For Top Spot
Image Gallery (4 images)
June 1, 2007 Buying an set of wheels is an emotional decision but we’d always suggest that a look through the residual value figures might help to point you towards a more rational emotional decision. The latest figures from EurotaxGlass’s in the UK are a case in point. EurotaxGlass’s has found that a number of volume-brand drop-tops retain a far greater proportion of their value than prestige-brand models from the likes of BMW, Lexus and Maserati. While the Ferrari F430 Spider holds onto its value better than any other 12-month-old convertible on sale in the UK (a typical ’06-plate example retaining 97 per cent of its original list price as a trade value), hot on its heels is the rather more humble Volkswagen Eos (at 94 per cent retained value in 2.0 TDI Sport guise). Read on for the top 20 listing.
Bardou-Jacquet’s must-see Shell Ferrari Commercial
Image Gallery (4 images)
April19, 2007 It’s Ferrari’s 60th birthday this year, and we’re pleased to report the company to be in extraordinarily good health. One of the most recognised brands on the planet, Ferrari’s name is synonymous with automotive performance, technological innovation, elegant form, and excellence in seemingly everything. On the racetrack, Ferrari has participated in every event in Formula one history, having won 23% of these races, with more race wins, fastest laps, pole positions and championships than any other marque. Formula One is the world’s most expensive sport by a fair margin – fielding a vaguely competitive car costs half a billion dollars a year, and several teams have spent a billion dollars in a year and still been embarrassed by the speed of Ferrari. Formula One is also the world’s most watched sporting event and the resultant brand recognition is enormous. Ferrari does not advertise but its marketing department is fittingly innovative in showcasing and developing the brand in many ways with the recent examples including a Ferrari theme park for grown ups in Abu Dhabi, the worldwide Tour of Ferrari, and dressing up a series of the world’s showcase buildings, including the world’s tallest building, Taipei's 508 metre 101 Tower. The anniversary celebrations have also spawned one of the world’s most outstanding adverts, not from Ferrari, but from its long-standing Formula One fuel partner Shell. Costing US$3.9 million, the two minute longform commercial involves a cavalcade of Ferrari’s most famous race cars driving flat-out through the streets Rome, Monaco, Rio, New York and Hong Kong and is yet another example of Antione Bardou-Jacquet’s astonishing talent. He was previously best known for the Honda “Cog” commercial. The commercial can be seen here – warn the neighbours, then turn up the speakers very loud for a wonderful experience.
Formula One 2007 – Ferrari emphatically takes the first battle
Image Gallery (46 images)
March 18, 2007 The first round of the 2007 Formula One championship got underway at Albert Park in Australia today, with Kimi Raikkonen claiming an emphatic first victory for Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro. Ferrari F1 supremo Jean Todt said, “a new chapter in Ferrari's history has got off to a very good start,” and well he might. Raikkonen led from pole to his first pit stop, briefly handed the lead to the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes of talented rookie Lewis Hamilton, then was never headed again. When the pace was at its hottest, he was close to a second a lap faster than his rivals. For McLaren Mercedes, two podiums secured it the manufacturers championship lead with 14 points, but Massa’s drive from last place into sixth means Ferrari trails by just a point.
The Ferrari Art.Engine
Image Gallery (14 images)
March 4, 2007 At the opposite end of the visibility spectrum to the Masquerade loudspeakers is the Ferrari Art.Engine. It’s one of the most exclusive audio systems on the planet, it looks like something from the 22nd century, and it’s accordingly a whole lot more connected too. Art.Engine is a complete music system that combines twin speaker arrays, wireless signal input and digital electronics in a single tower designed specifically for the home or office. One press of the red “Engine Start” control button beams music wirelessly from your computer, or you can plug in an iPod, MP3 player, satellite radio or CD player and instantly enjoy an extraordinary music experience. More a fine instrument than a piece of electronic equipment, the Art.Engine is a luxurious and timeless sculpture of aluminum and carbon fiber that combines performance, beauty and simplicity, not to mention a presence that cannot be ignored, make it the focal point of any space it inhabits. Limited to only 1000 pieces, the elegant Art.Engine is one of the most exclusive products ever licensed by Ferrari and is an objet d’art that introduces a new standard in room-filling music reproduction and visual presentation.
Montezemolo proclaims "all-new Ferrari F1 Team"
Image Gallery (15 images)
January 16, 2007 It should seem strange that the unveiling of the fifty third Formula 1 single-seater built by Ferrari was also the proclamation of a new Ferrari but with the retirement of Michael Schumacher and the loss of Ross Brawn, Ferrari supremo Montezemolo underlined just that. "This is a complete new Ferrari, and I don't speak just about the car but about the whole Scuderia. There is a new driver, who is succeeding a driver that has been with us since 1996. It is a very important substitution; not only because Michael has won more races than anyone else in our history, but also because he created a personal relationship with the company and the men. It is true that Massa is here for his second year and so we can say that he is still young. But he already has some experience and he grew a lot over the last year. There are two young managers - Stefano Domenicali, Sporting Director, and Mario Almondo, Technical Director - who come from the school of Ferrari. Over all those years we put all our resources in internal growth, which is a very important fact."
Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina
Image Gallery (24 images)
July 31, 2006 Feast your eyes on this beautie - it’s the Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina and will debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The car is a one-off commissioned by James Glickenhaus, the American collector with a yen for the legendary racing cars of the Sixties. Starting from a Ferrari Enzo, the aim was to produce a sole vehicle inspired by sport racing cars with extreme vocations: not just a show-car but a vehicle to be enjoyed on the road. Using CAS modelling, more than 200 components were specifically developed through constant interaction between styling and design for the mainly carbon fibre, very mobile sculpture. It's no show pony alone, as it it was wind-tunnel tested along the way to deliver function as well as the equisite form.
Zagato Ferrari 575 GTZ
Image Gallery (21 images)
April 28, 2006 Yoshiyuki Hayashi is a famous Japanese car collector, who owns numerous cars of great historical value, including several Ferraris such as the 166MM, the 250 Spider California, two Daytonas – a coupe and a spider – and the Enzo. In the classic tradition of the wealthy exclusive car enthuisiasts who stimulated the creativeness of Italian coachbuilders in the 1950s and 1960s, Hayashi asked Zagato if it would be possible to create a body for his 575M, in the style of the famous 250GTZ berlinetta. When Zagato received this request, it informed Ferrari of the project, which would be a good opportunity to celebrate the model’s anniversary, and then created a car that harked back to the 250 GTZ, built around the Ferrari 575. Like its forebear, the 575 GTZ has an all-aluminium body, and, as a tribute to Ferrari and to two-seater Italian sports cars, it has joined an exclusive group of custom-built cars.
Schumacher and Ferrari take San Marino F1
Image Gallery (28 images)
April 24, 2006 Ferrari F1 supremo Jean Todt had this to say when Michael Schumacher scored a narrow win over Fernando Alonso in Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix at Imola: "When I was going up to the podium, I said to Michael that I could not remember the way anymore, as it had been such a long time since the last victory!” The result came courtesy of hard work and was “all the better coming in front of so many of our fans and employees who filled their own grandstand here.” Ferrari's win moves Schumacher to second in the Drivers' championship, and gives Ferrari 30 points in the World Championship to Renault's 51 and McLaren's 33. Renault F1 Managing director Flavio Briatore, after this week giving notice he would be extending his contract with the ultra-successful Renault team, thought it was just another day at the office. “We had both cars in the points, Fernando has a big lead in the drivers’ championship, and it was another good team performance today,” said the colourful power player. Sadly, the drama of the event surrounded the historic circuit’s reputation as one on which it is almost impossible to overtake. Schumacher started from pole so raging championship favourite Fernando Alonso could only hope to pressure his rival into a mistake that never came. Schumacher had every reason to make a mistake, as his tyres were suffering “a bit of graining” and he drove a large portion of the race at modest speeds but on the limits of adhesion.
Formula One season gets underway - Renault, Ferrari, McLaren and Honda on the pace
Image Gallery (40 images)
March 13, 2006 The 2006 Formula 1 season erupted to life yesterday with strong indications that four teams will contest the win at each Grand Prix, and three, maybe four drivers will contest the title. 2006 champion Fernando Alonso won the race narrowly in his Renault but it was the renewed pace of Ferrari and Michael Schumacher that gave everyone heart, with an all red front row on the grid for the first time since the 2004 Hungarian Grand Prix as the Scuderia Ferrari driver equalled the record of 65 pole positions set by the late Ayrton Senna. The performance of the day though was that of Kimi Raikkonen who drove through the field from dead last in his McLaren Mercedes to take third. Honda’s 2006 challenge appears credible after a year from hell in 2005, with Jenson Button missing the podium by just six tenths of a second. Finally, the first race performance of seventh place by Nico Rosberg (son of Keke) was a ripper, particularly considering the rookie cut the fastest lap of the race in a Williams Cosworth which was nowhere near the fastest car.
Ferrari's new 248 F1 - not the end of an era says di Montezemolo
Image Gallery (16 images)
January 25, 2006 To say Ferrari had a bad year in racing in 2005 is an understatement. Going into the year with six consecutive constructors titles and five consecutive drivers titles, Ferrari finished a distant third in the constructors championship and Schumacher’s claim on being best ever slipped when he too finished a third with Alonso more than doubling his points haul. Ferrari's President, Luca di Montezemolo was very clear in his pronouncement as the 2006 Ferrari F1 machinery and staff were introduced to the media at Autodrome Mugello yesterday: "After having lost two titles at the last round, in 1997 and 1998, and six consecutive world crowns, I don't want the 2005 results to seem like the end of an era. We have lived through some incredible years. Last year we suffered a little from the successive rule changes but now we are looking ahead. We want to get back to winning ways.” Accordingly, Ferrari showed a completely new car.
Ferrari FXX wins the "most functional design" at NAIAS
Image Gallery (3 images)
January 17, 2006 Many words have been used to describe Ferrari's products over the years, and these words are usually words such as exquisite, awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping, inspirational, epic, and a host of other superlatives. Rarely however, is a Ferrari described as functional, but that is exactly the word which has been used not only to describe
Ferrari's most extreme car, the Ferrari FXX, but it has also won the prestigious Eyeson Design Award as the best example of functional design at the 2006 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS, AKA Detroit Motor Show). Seventeen of the most renowned international designers, including Chris Bangle from BMW, Willy G Davidson, head of styling at Harley-Davidson and Shiro Nakamura, from Nissan, sat on the panel.
Ferrari 599 GTB - most powerful V12 production car of all time
Image Gallery (4 images)
January 10, 2006 There are few automotive announcements that could turn attention from the new model frenzy currently underway at the NAIAS (Detroit) Show, but overnight news from Maranello has done just that, when Ferrari announced the forthcoming Pininfarina-designed 599 GTB. To be shown for the first time on February 28 at the Geneva Motor Show, the 599 GTB will be the most powerful V12-engined production car of all time. The latest interpretation of a theme that has seen such classics as the 250 GT, the 275 GTB, and the 365 GTB4, the 599 GTB replaces the most recent in that great line of berlinettas, the 575M Maranello. The new car is a concentration of Ferrari's most innovative and technologically advanced engineering solutions applied to a mid-front engined two-seater coupe.
And now a Ferrari F-20 LCD screen

January 7, 2006 The partnership between Acer and Ferrari dates back to February 2003 when Acer became the Official Supplier of the team. Since that time, Acer has been developing and selling Ferrari notebooks with such success it has now announced the Ferrari F-20 LCD Monitor. The new 20" Ferrari LCD display uses exclusive materials and advanced technologies such as Acer CrystalBrite, which offers greater luminosity and brighter images. It also has a completely unique feature – a Ferrari badge and the guarantee your desktop will be as up-to-date and stylish as possible – for US$600.
World Debut Of Ferrari FXX at Bologna Motor Show
Image Gallery (5 images)
December 3, 2005 - The Bologna Motor Show provided the venue for Ferrari’s world unveiling of the FXX, a car aimed at a selected group of the marque’s most dedicated and passionate clients. This prototype, of which just 29 have been built, is the most technologically advanced GT car ever to emerge from Maranello. It will be used exclusively on track as part of a specific ongoing research and development programme featuring the first ever group of Client Test Drivers. The FXX has not been homologated for road use or racing. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the FXX is the truly innovative technical client constructor collaboration programme which we’ve written about previously.
Ferrari design contest winners

November 23, 2005 The winners of Ferrari's design contest "New Concepts of the Myth" have been announced. Organised by Ferrari in conjunction with Pininfarina to search for tomorrow's car designers, the contest winners have been drawn from three continents. Ferrari head Luca di Montezemolo and Sergio Pininfarina announced the winners of the contest to the 20 finalists whose models have previously been covered by Gizmag – the winning models were the Millechili, Fiorano, Tre Diviso and the Ascari. A complete gallery of all of the contestants can be found here.
Ferrari Concepts on display
Image Gallery (30 images)
November 10, 2005 The new Ferrari’s concepts of the myth are now a reality. The selection of the 20 best nominees for the Ferrari of the future, created by automotive design students of four of the most prestigious schools worldwide (Center for Creative Studies of Detroit, Coventry School of Art and Design, European Institute of Design of Turin and Tokyo Communication Arts), are currently being exhibited at the Galleria Ferrari in Maranello. The students have been challenging themselves in the production of scale 1:4 Ferrari models, innovative and fresh in style and functionality as well as in external and internal volumes, proposing stimulating alternatives to the internationally acclaimed shapes of the current and previous mid-engined eight cylinder cars and the front-engined twelve cylinder cars.
The Ferrari GG - one hell of a 50th birthday present
Image Gallery (15 images)
October 25, 2005 “To mark 50 years of activity in the world of car design, I decided to sculpture a Ferrari to the memory of that great adventure and enjoy it with my family” – so sayeth automotive fashionista Giorgetto Giugiaro who both commissioned and created a project that spilled over into stretching horizons, in that he became concurrently – for the first time ever –supplier and customer of the new car. Rather than being a spellbound step into tomorrow, the ultimate outcome of all this is an expression of today – a Ferrari graced by his initials, GG, followed by the digit 50 by way of epitomizing his debut into the world of car design in September 1955 –imbued by an imposing, unmistakable artistry capturing skyhigh ergonomics and outstanding space on board.
Ferrari reveals an even hotter F430 at Frankfurt
Image Gallery (12 images)
September 13, 2005 For drivers for whom the acclaimed Ferrari F430 does not provide sufficient excitement, Ferrari has revealed the racing version, the F430 Challenge at the Frankfurt International Motor Show today (13 September 2005). The F430 Challenge boasts a kerb weight of just 1,225 kg with weight being shed in every area of the car, such as the Lexan windscreen, the all-carbon fibre intake plenum cover, and the specific exhaust system. To ensure that drivers get the full benefit of the car's sporty prowess on the track, the E-Diff has been replaced by a mechanical differential and the EBD has been replaced with a mechanical system. Similarly, the stability and traction control is permanently disengaged and "race" settings have been maintained on the gearbox and engine management system, along with the ABS and ASR, thus doing away with the manettino switch. The ASR can be deactivated by the driver at will.
Valentino Rossi test drives Ferrari F1 Car
Image Gallery (5 images)
August 6, 2005 The prospects of the World’s best motorcycle racer switching to Formula 1 Motor Racing were enhanced significantly this week when Italian World Motorcycle champion Valentino Rossi tested the Ferrari F2005 car for two complete days at Ferrari’s private Fiorano test facility, lapping fast enough for former Ferrari test-driver Jean Alesi to describe his performance as “formidable”. Apart from Rossi’s 58.3 second lap of Fiorano (Michael Schumacher's track record is 55.999), further indication of the importance of the test was evident when Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo and F1 supremo Jean Todt were on hand for the drive.
Galleria Ferrari - the Ferrari museum

Ferrari FXX turns client-collectors into genuine Ferrari Test Drivers
Image Gallery (5 images)
June 16, 2005 The name Ferrari is almost synonymous with genius in an automotive sense. We have seen the marque pioneer many technical innovations on the racetrack and the road, and the Ferrari tacticians for Messrs Schumacher and Barrichello have constantly astounded us over recent years with the audacity and sheer genius (there’s that word again) of their moves. Now the company gets genius points in a technological and a marketing sense for the truly innovative technical collaboration programme around the FXX prototype aimed at its most dedicated and passionate clients. The 800 horsepower FXX is the most advanced GT ever created at Maranello and its mission is to involve Ferrari’s most valued Clients as genuine Prancing Horse Test Drivers in their own right. The wealth of data and experience gathered in the course of this very special programme will be exceptionally important. Every Client who signs up for the FXX project by purchasing one of the estimated 20 or so cars being built, will actually be joining Team Ferrari, and will have his driving experiences at the wheel of this new car monitored directly by the Prancing Horse’s technicians and specialists. The FXX and the relative package cost a total of 1.5 million euro (excluding taxes) and applications to join the programme are being evaluated by a special in-house committee.
